When I think back to boarding school and military service the very word Discipline makes me shudder. Then I remember the pride I felt at my first published article Zen as a Philosophical Discipline commissioned by Michael Tse for Qi Magazine – who chose the title – some twenty years ago. And now, reflecting on our recent Qigong Teacher Training Retreat in Portugal, I find myself full of admiration for our students who walked the path with Anamarta and me, those who overcame their difficulties, enduring to achieve something they can be proud of. I believe we each have it within us, that well of – what? Strength? Passion? Power? … Discipline? to draw on when you need to get what you really want. It’s a well that doesn’t run dry but only refills with every new resource. So I guess, all things considered, that sharing the Tao of Spiritual Discipline is another way to help others. I like it!
